AMMAN — The Jordan Furniture Exporters and Manufacturers Association on Tuesday called on the government to allow the sector to sell to customers in person due to difficulties in selling furniture products online. Head of the association Sharaf Hayajneh said in a statement that the average number of customers in a furniture store on a standard peak day reaches 15, allowing an area of 80 square metres for each client within stores, which exceeds the safe distance determined by the government, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. DOWAGIAC, MI -- A furniture manufacturer in Southwest Michigan is permanently reducing its workforce after a forced closure related to the coronavirus. Ameriwood Industries, a furniture manufacturer in Dowagiac, permanently laid off 79 employees and will repurpose its facility into a distribution center, according to paperwork filed with the state of Michigan April 13. "This reduction is a result of a significant downturn in our business and has become immediately necessary due to the halt in business caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the governor of Michigan's "Stay Home, Stay Safe" executive order, which has shut us down almost entirely," the company wrote in the notice to the state of the change to its workforce. The company is permanently laying off three salaried professionals and 76 hourly employees, the letter stated. NATICK, MA — Runners across the area are being invited to participate in a charity 5K, but you might not even have to leave your neighborhood to partake. Every year, Medfield-based New Life Furniture Bank hosts a 5K trail run to raise money. And it's a big one, accounting for about 20 percent of the nonprofit's annual budget. With coronavirus, a regular 5K isn't possible, so New Life is letting runners participate on their own time.
